The company is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its corporate finance team in Chicago, IL. This role involves assisting in reporting and reconciliation of accounting functions, analyzing financial statements for discrepancies, and requires a self-starter who is highly organized with great attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 2 years accounting experience (public accounting or relevant corporate accounting experience preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and consistent follow through on assigned tasks
  • Experience with financial accounting systems
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office
  • Ability to work independently in a highly organized manner
  • Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and respond to ad-hoc requests.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older to apply

Responsibilities

  • Assist with month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries and supporting documentation.
  • Support audit requests by preparing documentation and responding to internal and external auditor inquiries.
  • Assist with the continuous improvement of processes and procedures as company expands into new and established markets.
  • Prepare and maintain fixed asset accounting records, including asset capitalization, transfers, disposals, and retirements within fixed asset management software.
  • Calculate and record monthly depreciation expense and reconcile fixed asset subledger to the general ledger.
  • Prepare fixed asset rollforward schedules supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting requirements.
  • Generate and analyze CapEx reporting for leadership, including tracking completed and ongoing projects and responding to ad-hoc management requests.
  • Maintain accounting and reporting for intangible assets, including asset recognition, amortization calculations, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Prepare intangible asset rollforwards and supporting schedules for financial reporting and cash flow statement preparation.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate reconciling items to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct fluctuation and variance analysis across balance sheet and income statement accounts to identify trends and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and strong attention to detail across accounting records and supporting schedules.
  • Complete ad-hoc analyses and special projects as assigned to support corporate accounting and leadership reporting needs.
