About The Position

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in New York. This role plays an important part in supporting the accuracy and transparency of Kobalt’s financial reporting and operational processes. You’ll be involved in month-end close activities, reconciliations, and supporting audits, while working closely with the Senior Accountant and wider Finance team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong accounting foundation who is looking to develop their skills in a fast-paced, international music company. You’ll gain exposure to core accounting processes and contribute to continuous improvements as you build your experience within the team.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years’ experience in accounting or a similar finance role.
  • Understanding of accrual-based accounting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or similar).
  • A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a medium-sized, fast-paced accounting environment.
  • Familiarity with NetSuite.
  • Progress toward a professional qualification (CPA or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Support the month-end close process for the Corporate business unit, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of key deliverables.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and assist in resolving discrepancies.
  • Partner with teams such as FP&A and P&C to support accurate reporting of operating expenses.
  • Support statutory reporting and audit requirements for overseas subsidiaries, working with external partners where required.
  • Assist with group audit requirements, ensuring supporting documentation and workpapers are complete and organised.
  • Support the administration of travel and expense systems (Concur and CWT) and the US credit card program.
  • Contribute to process improvements by identifying inefficiencies and supporting solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, ensuring clarity and accuracy in financial information.
