About The Position

Topel Forman is seeking a tech savvy Staff Accountant within our Family Office Services team in our Chicago office. You will have the opportunity to work closely with family office clients, which include closely held companies and high-net-worth individuals. As the Staff Accountant, you will work closely with our audit and tax teams, and perform monthly, quarterly, or year-end accounting-related tasks as well as gather client information necessary for participating in tax planning and recognizing and communicating potential risks. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Understanding of U.S. GAAP, budgeting, financial analysis, and accounting functions generally performed by an ultra-high net worth family
  • Comprehends common financial statements and understands complex broker/private equity statements
  • Proficient MS Office with advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proven history of providing premier service to clients with a can-do attitude
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to the highest level of quality and output
  • Good time management skills: ability to juggle and meet multiple critical deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and tools
  • Ability to identify and discuss issues and present workable solutions in a simple, meaningful, and focused manner with all levels of the team and clients

Nice To Haves

  • Prior public accounting experience preferred
  • QuickBooks experience

  • Asset Vantage Accounting System

Responsibilities

  • Record financial transactions, balancing and reconciling a variety of accounts
  • Maintain and review general ledger accounts and consolidations
  • Prepare financial statements for multiple entities, including operating businesses, trusts and estates, partnerships, private foundations, and individuals
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with each client and client’s outside advisors, and address any questions or issues that arise
  • Assume ownership and responsibility for effectively researching, tracking, and resolving accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies
  • Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology
  • Timely and accurate processing of month-end and year-end closing and reporting
  • Other responsibilities as required
