About The Position

The American Angus Association is seeking a dedicated and detail‑oriented Staff Accountant to join its St. Joseph, MO office. This position is responsible for maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledgers, as well as performing general bookkeeping for multiple companies. The Staff Accountant plays an essential role in ensuring the accuracy of financial records and supporting the overall financial health of the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for key day‑to‑day accounting functions while also playing a vital role in month‑end and year‑end processes, assisting with auditor requests and analyzing key metrics for the organization. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent time management, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Reliable and dependable, with a strong desire and willingness to learn while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent work experience required.
  • Two or more years of experience in accounting or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, Shopify, Bill.com, ADP) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable by verifying, reconciling, and processing invoices in accordance with vendor payment terms.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly to ensure accurate financial data.
  • Perform month‑end closing activities, including preparing and posting journal entries.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations, identifying discrepancies and making necessary adjustments.
  • Manage inventory accounting for the Angus Brand and Angus Supply stores, including tracking inventory movements, performing reconciliations, and ensuring accurate valuation. Serve as the lead user for the Shopify inventory platform.
  • Process gift receipts for the Angus Foundation, ensuring proper coding and compliance with fund restrictions.
  • Provide backup to Accounts Receivable and other accounting functions through cross‑training with team members.
  • Assist with year‑end closing tasks, including preparing reconciliations, supporting schedules, and documentation for external auditors.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned, contributing to the success of the finance department.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
