About The Position

The Staff Accountant will play a pivotal role in our accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial operations within the transportation industry. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, exceptional organization skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Senior Staff Accountant and other members of the accounting team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices (GAAP).
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Karmak or other ERP systems is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations, in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and reports, including the setup, input, review, and analysis of financial data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
  • Maintain the fixed asset system, including asset additions, disposals, depreciation, and related reconciliations.
  • Record monthly equipment sales and calculate applicable commissions.
  • Prepare and post weekly and bi-weekly payroll journal entries to general ledger.
  • Assist with the budgeting and forecasting processes, including data gathering and variance analysis.
  • Provide financial analysis and support special projects and ad hoc requests as needed
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting department.
  • Assist in the implementation of new accounting software and tools as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
