JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE The Staff Accountant I initiates and completes the month end close for assigned programs, managing and analyzing the budgets of specified program funds, providing regular reports. Ensures all transactions for assigned programs are recorded accurately, including all accounts payable and general ledger entries, making adjustment as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
  • Bachelors Degree Or A combination of five years relevant coursework and experience
  • Minimum of three years of accounting experience OR , Two years of accounting experience in a in a large, publicly funded non - profit organization OR , If the candidate has an Associates Degree or less, five years of accounting experience).

  • Degree in Accounting or Business
  • Federal grant reporting and fund accounting
  • Audit background is a plus
  • Non-Profit experience
  • Great Plain SAP

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining accounting data for multiple programs (some with multiple grants) while managing varying grant requirements (data entry, file maintenance)
  • Preparing journal entries, worksheets and financial reports using automated as well as hands-on accounting practices following GAAP
  • Providing financial analyses and participating in budget preparation
  • Assist with audits as required, preparing documents and reports
  • Prepare monthly billing and grant drawdown
  • Maintain accounting controls, as required by VOALA, grantor requirements and GAAP
  • Assist with preparation of reports to Funders
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Strategic Finance
  • Maintaining accounting data for multiple programs (some with multiple grants) while managing varying grant requirements
  • Preparing journal entries, worksheets and financial reports using automated as well as hands-on accounting practices following GAAP
  • Providing financial analysis and participating in budget preparation
  • Preparing monthly billing to program funders
  • Maintaining accounting controls by following policies and procedures complying Federal, State and Local financial requirement
  • Correct errors by posting adjusting entries
  • Prepare monthly reports for Program Managers.
  • Assist withy quarterly, yearly closeout reports for funders
  • Other duties as required and may be subject to change
