About The Position

Turning complex capital projects into clear, reliable financial outcomes Staff Accountant (Project Accounting/Fixed Assets): Irvine, CA About the role Are you an accounting professional who is passionate about accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence? The Staff Project Accountant plays an essential role in supporting the Finance Team’s project accounting framework, ensuring accurate tracking of capital projects, proper fixed asset accounting, and timely financial reporting. Based in our Irvine office on a hybrid basis, you will partner with project teams, ensure adherence to financial policies, and help maintain the integrity of our capital project and fixed asset records. Your work ensures capital projects are executed efficiently while adhering to U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and corporate governance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA‑track preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in project accounting, fixed asset accounting, or related fields.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly capitalization rules and fixed asset accounting.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • High integrity and commitment to strong internal controls.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in telecommunications, technology, or project‑based environments preferred.
  • Experience working with ERP systems preferred (Workday experience a plus).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with project setup, cost tracking, and ongoing project financial maintenance.
  • Monitor and validate project expenditures for accuracy and proper coding.
  • Partner with Project Managers to gather project updates, spending forecasts, and documentation.
  • Prepare monthly project cost reports and identify variances to budgets or forecasts.
  • Support project closeout activities, ensuring costs are complete, properly categorized, and ready for capitalization.
  • Ensure project accounting practices are consistent with internal controls, company policies, and GAAP requirements.
  • Maintain the fixed asset subledger, including additions, disposals, transfers, and adjustments.
  • Prepare monthly fixed asset and depreciation reconciliations.
  • Ensure proper capitalization of project costs in accordance with internal policies and U.S. GAAP.
  • Prepare journal entries related to project costs, fixed assets, and depreciation.
  • Support monthly balance sheet reconciliations for project and fixed asset accounts.
  • Assist with preparing internal reporting packages related to capital projects and fixed assets.
  • Research and resolve variances or discrepancies identified during close activities.
  • Work closely with Procurement, Engineering, Project Management, and FP&A to ensure data accuracy.
  • Support system improvements and testing within Workday related to projects and fixed assets.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and strengthen internal controls.
