About The Position

Rio Grande Community College is seeking a Staff Accountant at our Rio Grande location. Responsibilities include carrying out the financial accounting activities of the institution as developed by the Community College CFO, COO, and Board of Directors. The position is full-time and offers a generous benefit plan. Principal Duties: Financial Accounting. Responsibilities include assisting with the execution of policies and procedures required to maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the State of Ohio statutes and revised code. Staff accountant will follow and ensure that the internal controls processes, policies, and procedures are strictly adhered to by all employees. Ensure operational activity is accurately reflected in the financial statements by analyzing ledger accounts to identify erroneous entries and verifying accuracy of transactions and balances, assisting with purchase requisitions, fixed asset management, and OBM to include controlling board requests. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial accounting entries to ensure timely period closing schedules are maintained. Assist with general ledger reconciliations, weekly financial transaction reconciliations, and monthly bank reconciliations. Assist in preparing and submitting information and documentation to external auditors. Play an active role in all other accounting aspects as needed by the Chief Financial Officer.

Requirements

  • Minimum of associate degree in accounting or finance. Bachelor preferred.
  • 2+ years’ professional accounting experience.
  • Strong attention to detail with good follow-up and follow-through abilities to ensure timely deliverables.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Outlook, Excel and Word specifically.
  • Working knowledge of financial software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment as an active team member.
  • Work very closely with Chief Financial Officer and Administrative Assistant
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
