About The Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining books and records in audit ready status for the portfolio of RiseBoro housing affiliates. They handle the full accounting cycle including preparation of financial reporting, bank reconciliations and audit materials, and assist with financial reporting to all stakeholders. Specific duties and responsibilities include: • Analyze business and financial data. • Prepare selected data analyses as directed by Assistant Controller. • Record and reconcile escrow account activity. • Prepare all aspects of financial statement package including journal entries, general ledger analysis and distribution of reports. • Reconcile bank and escrow statements to general ledger. • Record accrued expenses for month-end close. • Ensure timely payment of all debt, utilities, real estate taxes and insurance. • Prepare monthly work papers to ensure audit readiness. • Assist in the development of automated reporting and forecasting tools for more efficient use of data. • Stay up to date with industry trends and make recommendations based on those trends. • Assist in preparation for year-end audits and other special assignments as needed. • Attend relevant training sessions keeping current on such subjects as LIHTC as pertinent to project parameters. • Recommend and implement continual internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions for process improvement. • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Requirements

  • Two years of relevant experience in finance; asset management experience a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software; intermediate to advanced working knowledge in Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of Yardi Voyager is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to pressure, work independently, proficiently, efficiently and must be able to meet deadlines.
  • Good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
  • Strong resonance with the RiseBoro Community Partnership mission.
  • Bachelor’s Degree; preferably in Accounting or equivalent experience
