The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the monthly general ledger close process, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting and budget analysis. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Up to 2 years of relevant accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Team-oriented with a positive, professional attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of mortgage servicing and various loan products is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Record, reconcile, and report accounting transactions in compliance with GAAP on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of monthly budget variance reports for department managers.
  • Support the development of financial schedules and exhibits for internal and external reporting.
  • Assist Accounts Payable with proper coding and allocation of departmental expenses.
  • Maintain vendor records and set up new vendor accounts in accordance with vendor management policies.
  • Coordinate year-end 1099 reporting and ensure timely and accurate submission.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of prepaid expense schedules, accounts payable accruals, and fixed asset depreciation.
  • Stay current with accounting standards and best practices through ongoing professional development.
