About The Position

Position Purpose: The Staff Accountant - Corporate must believe in, practice, and initiate all Green Brick Partners values set forth in an acronym we call HOME. They must be Honest, Objective, Mature and Efficient in how they approach their role at Green Brick Partners. Ensure business transactions are accounted for in accordance with US GAAP while maintaining compliance with SOX controls Assist in preparation of timely and reliable consolidated financial statements and internal financial reporting packages Implement Company initiatives related to key accounting processes and internal controls

Requirements

  • BS degree in Accounting
  • 1 year experience in accounting with Big 4 public accounting firms preferred
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting
  • Strong understanding of month-end close and financial statements preparation processes
  • Understanding of internal controls
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical skills with regards to comparative financial statements and historical financial data
  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Excel, accounting software and databases, including query and data mining
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective communication with staff and management
  • Ability to stand and walk for 4 hours straight or up to a full 8-hour day; sit for extended periods; kneel and bend at the waist; walk up and down stairs; walk on unlevel terrain; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision ability required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations requiring advanced knowledge of accounting and related operations
  • Review certain monthly journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by Staff Accountant
  • Assist Senior Accountant with preparation of monthly financial reporting packages
  • Assist Senior Accountant with preparation and tie-out of quarterly schedules to support 10-Q and 10-K reports
  • Assist Senior Accountant with preparation of more complex accounting areas, including impairment, rebates, capitalized interest and overhead allocation, corporate expense allocations
  • Execute internal controls over the Company’s accounting and financial processes
  • Collaborate with Centre Living and Green Brick Corporate team members to ensure accuracy of financial information
  • Coordinate information requests of internal and external auditors
  • Review invoices and accounts payable reports prepared by accounts payable staff
  • Implement new or more efficient processes and complete special projects, as needed
  • Coordinate with Title companies for lot takedowns and lot transfers
  • Manage ad-hoc requests from Centre Living purchasing, sales and construction teams
  • Manage Centre Living treasury operations
