Primary Purpose Part of a small transmission development team that models financial, economic, market, regulatory, and technological influences in pursuit of transmission investment opportunities. Responsible for assisting in development, strategy, and policy advocacy as it relates to transmission. Create value supporting development of preferred market design and transmission policy while providing support to transmission investment opportunities in PJM and neighboring planning regions. Provide support on execution of objectives in PJM, MISO, and other planning regions stakeholder governance processes, with trade groups, ad-hoc coalitions, and other stakeholder venues. Responsible for developing and implementing short-term and long-term business plans and providing analytical and operational support pertaining to transmission development opportunities. In addition, this position will provide assistance on Exelon's Off-Shore Wind and other renewable transmission development opportunities. Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). This position must sit out of our Oakbrook Terrace - IL, Newark - DE, Philadelphia - PA, Kennett Square - PA, Washington - DC or Baltimore - MD office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Engineering, Finance, or another relevant field AND 4 - 7 years of experience in energy/utilities sector focusing on transmission development, corporate strategy, transmission planning and modeling, project management, regulatory, or statistical/econometric/financial analysis, or in lieu of Bachelor's degree, a minimum of 8 - 12 years relevant business experience is required.
  • Experience with economic and financial analysis of projects or businesses.
  • Familiarity with transmission planning process, cost allocation, and stakeholder processes in PJM.
  • Knowledge of FERC jurisdiction regarding transmission,
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify and drive solution of complex problems.
  • Experience in engaging subject matter experts and distilling information into key messages.
  • Data modeling competence with knowledge of standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and specialized business technologies and applications (e.g., business modeling, forecasting, financial modeling) to retrieve, analyze, and present data in support of business.
  • Ability to effectively navigate uncertainty.
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced environment with ability to meet deadlines and complete time-sensitive projects.
  • Strong organizational, time management, networking, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with ability to succinctly communicate complex problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work productively with diverse teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the PJM Stakeholder process
  • Advanced Degree in Engineering, Business, Policy, Economics, Law or related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Knowledge of FERC Electric Transmission regulations and relevant statutory provisions
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of PJM Tariff, contracts, policies, organization and procedures
  • Knowledge of NERC and other reliability organizations
  • Management or other team-lead experience
  • Has transmission planning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support due diligence and analysis on multiple transmission projects and aid the development team to resolve key strategic issues facing the company.
  • Conduct modeling, forecasts, trend analysis, variance assessment, business case formulation, statistical and financial analysis, strategic planning, support the execution of transmission opportunities, and develop other ad-hoc analyses as needed.
  • Provide strategic analysis and critical thinking to analyze issues related to transmission that will have a major impact on the company's performance.
  • Assist internal groups to drive transmission project development across Exelon's PJM footprint.
  • Support the development of discussion materials for Transmission Strategy Leadership and other executives.
  • Support origination and evaluation of transmission development with other stakeholders including generation developers and other transmission developers.
  • Assist with PJM State Agreement Approach solicitations and other solicitation proposals involving transmission development opportunities.
  • Survey external industry data and stay current on industry trends/developments related to transmission development that are of importance to Exelon.
  • Develop and maintain monthly, quarterly, or annual reports on non-incumbent transmission development, merchant transmission development and offshore wind activities across the country.
