The job details are as follows: The manager is responsible for the Enterprise Shared Services group including scheduling staff tasks, performance reviews and budgeting. The manager is responsible for technical decisions during software development. Objective: efficiently utilize senior development staff based on corporate priorities, risk, and return on investment. The manager works with other organizations within OCLC to implement infrastructure (middle-level) software components that are shared between products and organizations. Included in this responsibility are project planning including scheduling and budgeting. Objective: Identify and provide common shared software components which lower overall development expense and provide better-integrated shared services to internal users (OCLC developers) and our members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering discipline
  • Requires 5+ years experience in managing and architecting infrastructure software components
  • 5+ years of previous project management experience required including management experience of senior developers and architects.
  • Broad exposure to a variety of computer concepts, machine architecture, analysis and design approaches.
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills including abilities to build consensus across organizational boundaries.
  • Experience with Agile Software Development methodologies such as XP, Scrum, and/or DSDM
  • Experience in operational management of production systems

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Budgeting and Financial Planning experience at the group level
  • Project Management Certification
  • Experience deploying enterprise application integration technologies
  • Experience deploying web services in a service oriented architecture

Responsibilities

  • Manage technical staff including: planning, organizing, training, directing, motivating, evaluating, and controlling.
  • Performing all administrative duties necessary for ongoing support of group’s activities including budgeting, staff selection, staff performance evaluation, progress and time reporting, and other administrative functions as needed.
  • Provide technical direction, guidance and mentoring to the staff members.
  • Serve as lead architect for Enterprise Shared Services.
  • Work with other development organizations at OCLC, build and document consensus on software architecture technology and direction.
  • Report to the Enterprise Architecture Team as necessary.
  • Oversee acquisition or development of shared components necessary to integrate existing products and services (both online and administrative) as well as new products and services.
  • Serve as project manager for architecture or shared components related projects.
  • Identify key software components that can be shared enterprise wide.
  • Serve as technical consultant for senior management, technical staff, product and project managers.
