The Processing, Guidance & Control (PG&C) Center, within the Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) Discipline, consists of the Signal Processing; Guidance, Navigation and Control; and Modeling, Simulation & Analysis (MSA) disciplines. PG&C delivers key technologies to our effector programs portfolio. Our GNC team is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer, Land-based Phalanx Weapon System (LPWS) Track and Fire Team Lead to lead LPWS projects in development and throughout the whole lifecycle. LPWS is under the Close-in Weapon System (CIWS) portfolio which includes the Navy’s Phalanx and SeaRAM. As the Sr. Systems Engineer, Land-based Phalanx Weapon System (LPWS) Track and Fire Team Lead you will function as a senior technical contributor and help develop and grow a team of 5 – 7 multi-disciplinary engineers in challenging work across multiple projects to enhance effectiveness of complex systems including: electromechanical servos; radar and infrared sensors; acquisition, detection, and tracking algorithms; hardware and projectile trajectory models applied in a simulation environment; embedded software; and enabling system and sub-system interfaces. You will coordinate with customers to develop and apply hardware and software test procedures; collaborate with technical and program leadership; support new business initiatives; architect field tests; and develop & execute technology roadmaps. This position is located onsite in Tucson, AZ.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of five (5) years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience developing embedded system code and modeling system behavior in C, C++, and Ada.
  • Experience with hardware/software integration and test including both lab HWIL and field environments.
  • Experience leading cross-discipline and/or project teams
  • Active and transferrable US government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • US Citizenship is required, as only US citizens are eligible for security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or related STEM degree.
  • 8 or more years of experience in Guidance, Navigation and Control; Radar and/or Electro-Optical Signal Processing; Modeling, Simulation and Analysis; Systems Engineering; Software; Power; and/or Servo Systems.
  • Experience developing system and subsystem weapon specifications, interface design documents, and specifications for overall system architecture and performance objectives.
  • Experience with NATO STANAG 4355 Modified Point Mass Model
  • Experience in development of Kalman Filtering algorithms
  • Experience with software lifecycle and version control tools such as Azure DevOps and Git.
  • Proficiency with using MATLAB and/or Python for evaluation of data sets.
  • Experience using UNIX/Linux based workstations.
  • Ability to effectively work multiple tasks and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Chief Engineer, the Lead Systems Engineer, and Engineering Integrated Product Team Leads across the program to plan tasking for, and provide technical oversight to, staff supporting execution of multiple LPWS projects.
  • Champion novel, extensible, and maintainable modeling and simulation solutions to complex software and physics problems in support of design, development, prototyping, integration, testing, and performance assessment.
  • Work efficiently inside an established software product, across multiple programming languages and technical environments.
  • Travel up to 20% of the time for field testing and customer interactions, with individual trips lasting up to a month.
  • Engage with suppliers and customers to procure and demonstrate capabilities in lab or field environments.
  • Communicate both written and oral status to program leadership and customers.
  • Guide a team through multiple lifecycle phases such as design and analysis; development and documentation of architecture, subsystem requirements, and test plans; peer reviews; root-cause failure investigations; and integration/test/verification activities.
  • Provide mentoring and support to engineering team members.
  • Engage Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) where needed to resolve complex issues.
