About The Position

The Sr. Specialist, Technical Writer is responsible for editing operation and maintenance instruction manuals, flight manuals, illustrated parts catalog, breakdown manuals, troubleshooting insolation manuals, and wiring manuals for airborne and ground-based mission systems within a structured and non-structured authoring environment. (FrameMaker, S1000D XML)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with six (6) years of prior experience authoring technical documentation, User manuals, Flight Manuals, and Maintenance documentation in a MILCERT Structured environment for Air Force, Army, or Navy Programs.
  • Graduate Degree with four (4) years of prior experience authoring technical documentation, User manuals, Flight Manuals, and Maintenance documentation in a MILCERT Structured environment for Air Force, Army, or Navy Programs.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of ten (10) years of prior experience authoring technical documentation, User manuals, Flight Manuals, and Maintenance documentation in a MILCERT Structured environment for Air Force, Army, or Navy Programs.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Create, develop, plan, write, and edit aircraft technical manuals for operational, instructional, or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication using industry standards.
  • Research and translate technical information into manuals and web-based documents for non-technical and technical users.
  • Recommend formats responsible for technical and customer requirements.
  • Knowledge of Aircraft modification engineering drawing to include structural modifications, wiring diagrams, harness lists, maintenance documentation, and FAA/Mil Cert Documentation and processes.
  • Assist in planning, executing, and reporting program action with the Technical Publications management team.
  • Update Digital Flight Manual data for the Rivet Joint, Cobra Ball, and Combat Sent aircraft fleet.
  • Interact with Engineering stakeholders and Customers to accurately capture Digital Flight Manual data and requirements in a timely manner.
  • Work within and lead defined budgets and meet schedule deadlines.
  • Use of MS Office Suite and applications.
  • Technical publication authoring experience using documentation processing tools. (Adobe, FrameMaker, XML, S1000)
  • Experience with the Rivet Joint, Cobra Ball, or Combat Sent aircraft mission platforms.
  • Knowledge of S1000D Authoring Standard, ATA100, ATA iSpec 2200, MIL-PRF-38807C, MIL-STD 2361C, and MIL-STD-37874.
  • Creating content for Air Force, Army, or Navy Programs.
  • Team player, able to work well with team, internal, and external customers.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
