About The Position

This position will provide support and guidance in management, operation, compliance, and coordination of staff at multiple Enhanced Shelter locations. This position will also supervise activities at one site and will maintain a safe environment for all the program participants at the Shelter. This position also provides emergency coverage as needed and works closely with all Shelter Operations Managers, Shelter Monitors, Case Managers and the LIHI Management team.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience working or volunteering with homeless or low-income populations.
  • Ability to work with people with sensitivity to cultural, race, gender, mental health and class issues, and a commitment to low-income housing.
  • Two years supervisor experience working on leading a program or project with staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, fairly independent and autonomous work environment. Must be a self-starter, highly organized, able to prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines, and follow-up.
  • Must have exceptional problem solving skills, be able to resolve conflicts, and ability to work effectively with difficult people.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office/Google Suite programs.
  • Previous experience with record keeping and report preparation.
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess a strong sense of ethics, professional boundaries, and an inviting demeanor.
  • Respect for people experiencing homelessness, diplomacy/tact, and an optimistic approach are essential
  • Able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and must meet Washington State minimum requirement for driver liability insurance.
  • Must be able to pass a driving record check.
  • Must pass criminal background checks and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education experience providing services to low-income and/or people experiencing homelessness.
  • Two years experience working in the property management or human services field.
  • Two years supervisor experience working on leading a program or project with staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff, interns and volunteers, and to work with confidential, sensitive information (physical, electronic, and verbal) and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience in training and supervising volunteers and/or staff.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, supervise, and train staff, interface with vendors, contractors, consultants, and community members.
  • Complete staff evaluations that address performance concerns, set goals with clear performance expectations.
  • Provide supervision, support and guidance to Shelter Operations Managers at a minimum of at least 2 other shelters.
  • Address staff issues timely, refer issues as appropriate to management, and work in a team approach to determine the best course of action.
  • Support the shelter operations team in effectively maintaining established policies and programs at the shelters.
  • Ensure that all Program Rosters reflect current information on a daily basis.
  • Provide an on-site presence, monitoring the shelter and surrounding areas.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of the program clients.
  • Enforce code of conduct.
  • Assist clients in completing intake paperwork.
  • Provide outreach and information to neighborhood organizations, community members, and the Community Advisory Committee.
  • Maintain inventory of basic supplies and assist in ordering supplies.
  • Respond to program participants’ concerns and questions regarding the shelter.
  • Respond to emergencies on site, being on-call with a cell phone.
  • Foster a clean and safe environment.
  • Responsible for detailed reporting and documenting all incidents and maintenance needs and operational issues in writing through the assigned platform/system, in a timely fashion (within 24 or 48 hours for non-emergent issues).
  • Engage with assigned training and comply with training deadlines.
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow PPE protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.
