The mission of the Enterprise Segmentation & Merchandising Insights team is to drive growth for Target by creating and delivering solutions that drive relevance. This team builds solutions and delivers recommendations that power strategy and assortment decisions across merchandising. A role in Enterprise Segmentation means you will be working on prioritized segmentation opportunities that will drive relevance and fuel Target’s growth, while scaling an operational plan that will enable Merchants to deliver consistent, sustainable, guest relevant assortments. You will use your skills, experience, and talents to be a part of a team focused on developing current and long-term growth initiatives for the company. As a Senior Segmentation Strategist, you’ll lead the development and execution of segmentation strategies that drive guest relevance and business performance. In this role, you will operate as a senior individual contributor, providing direction, guidance, and subject matter expertise to segmentation strategists and analysts, while leading work across cross-functional partners. You’ll become an expert in consumer, market, and business data and translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations that influence assortment and merchandising strategies. You’ll be working in close alignment with key partners such as Buying, Planning, Inventory, Space & Presentation, Guest Insights and Assortment Planning. You will leverage your experience in strategic and cross-functional leadership to execute segmentation and assortment strategies and drive alignment across stakeholders. You’ll influence the annual financial plan by forecasting the anticipated impact at the tactic level and partner to measure success, identifying when and where to scale each tactic further. You will also establish and lead core business routines, including strategy development, category transitions, and in-season performance optimization, ensuring insights are translated into actions that improve guest relevance, market share, and financial performance. You will leverage internal and external data sources, including guest behavior, competitive insights, and financial performance, to identify opportunities and inform forward-looking strategies. Your ability to prioritize work, navigate ambiguity, and influence without authority will be critical to success in this role. Additionally:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years of progressive experience within Segmentation, Merchandising, Merchandising Strategy, Strategy/Consulting, Consumer Insights, or other relevant business functions
  • Ability to guide, influence, and develop others without direct authority
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to leverage data to influence decisions, identify risks and improvement opportunities, and distill complex issues into actionable plans
  • Strong strategic, financial, and business acumen with the ability to translate insights into measurable business outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, gain alignment, establish rapport and collaborate effectively across departments and externally
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to create clarity and confidence, including synthesizing complex information into compelling narratives tailored to all levels of leadership
  • Ability to adapt, prioritize and successfully manage multiple tasks or projects in response to ambiguous, changing or competing priorities
  • Ability to work autonomously and proactively to manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintain appropriate prioritization and adhere to deadlines
  • This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day. Work duties cannot be performed outside of the country of the primary work location, unless otherwise prescribed by Target.

  • Apply a test-and-learn mindset to refine strategies based on performance outcomes and evolving business needs
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to strengthen strategic thinking, data interpretation, and storytelling capabilities across the team
