About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Plumbing Designer to be based in our Columbus, Ohio office. The Senior Plumbing Designer will be responsible for working on various designs of high-performance buildings across multiple sectors, including Corporate Workplace and Commercial buildings, Federal Civilian and DoD, Healthcare, Mission Critical, Justice, Logistics, and Higher Education projects. The Senior Plumbing Designer should have the ability to work independently and fulfill design requirements for both small and large projects. The ideal candidate will work on projects involving new facilities, as well as the renovation, modernization, and repurposing of existing buildings. They should possess excellent organizational skills, demonstrate critical thinking, promptly identify issues, and contribute to finding solutions. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to : Gathers and correlates engineering data using established and well-defined procedures. Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations. Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments. Identifies discrepancies in results. Provides guidance and direction to entry level engineers. Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision. Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works. Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position. Work cooperatively with managers and other team members to achieve the company's mission, including assisting in proposal preparation in conjunction with the senior leadership of the office. Write reports for internal and external purposes based on findings, staying current on codes and technologies relevant to plumbing, medical gas, and fire protection disciplines. Handle engineering design (Plumbing) from concept through construction administration, conducting research, developing, designing, and specifying plumbing systems, equipment, components, and materials. Organize and conduct site visits to collect data and evaluate plumbing systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects. Ensure discipline plans meet overall project team requirements for project scope and schedule, completing assigned engineering and design tasks according to client-specified criteria and applicable codes and standards. Coordinate plumbing and medical gas systems with other disciplines, concisely expressing complex system solutions in early design phases, attending project meetings (internal and with clients). Ensure conformance with standards, established design practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction. Assist in project quality control review, review and approve shop drawings, and attend client meetings during the construction administration phase. Provides structured guidance and training to develop team capabilities.

Requirements

  • BA/BS plus 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of relevant experience within a consulting or design-build firm, specifically working on Plumbing aspects of the projects.
  • Knowledge and experience with ASHRAE standards, IPC, IMC, and IECC codes.
  • Proficient in building plumbing systems including but not limited to, sanitary drainage and venting, domestic service water, domestic hot water, storm drainage systems, air compressor layout, and medical gases.
  • Experience in the following markets: federal, healthcare, laboratory, and corporate commercial/mixed use.
  • Experience with LEED and sustainable design projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or coursework in this discipline preferred.
  • CPD (Certified Plumbing Designer) or professional engineer preferred.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Project-related travel may occasionally be required for this position.
