About The Position

The Senior Manager of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for leading and supporting EHS initiatives and programs at the Abzena Bristol site. The Sr. EHS Manager. This involves OSHA, EPA, and FDA regulatory compliance, and will integrate strongly with support teams and contractors needed to ensure that facility and site operations comply with all Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, or science-related degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in an industry subject to GLP and GMP requirements.
  • 8+ years of experience in EHS functions with ability to pursue EHS certifications and appropriate training for job functional skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DEP regulations and other federal, state, and local code requirements.
  • Proven ability to operate efficiently in an FDA regulated environment with subsequent support during audits as well as client interaction and requests.

Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Compliance & Program Governance
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, DEP, FDA expectations for pharma environments, etc.).
  • Maintain and enhance the site’s EHS management systems, ensuring programs remain current, effective, and audit ready.
  • Develop and maintain required regulatory documentation, permits, reports, and records.
  • Act as a contact for regulatory agencies during inspections, reporting, and correspondence.
  • Perform routine audits, inspections, and program reviews to ensure sustained compliance and identify improvement areas.
  • EHS Systems, Tools & Software Administration
  • Lead implementation, configuration, and administration of EHS software platforms (incident management, training systems, SDS management, risk assessment tools, etc.).
  • Develop digital workflows and dashboards to track performance metrics, corrective actions, and leading indicators.
  • Risk Assessment & HPAPI Operational Support
  • Conduct and facilitate comprehensive risk assessments—including job hazard analyses (JHAs), change management reviews, ergonomic analyses, and potent compound exposure evaluations.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Quality to evaluate processes and equipment
  • Provide expert guidance on selection, use, and validation of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection.
  • Support Engineering with safety input for facility modifications, equipment selection, and capital projects.
  • Training, Guidance & Safety Culture Development
  • Develop and deliver effective EHS training programs.
  • Partner with site leadership to reinforce a strong EHS culture grounded in accountability, transparency, and continuous learning.
  • Incident Management & Problem Solving
  • Lead or support incident investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective action development, and verification of effectiveness.
  • Apply structured problem-solving tools (5-Why, Fishbone, TapRoot, etc.) to identify systemic issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Continuous Improvement & Strategic EHS Initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and optimize EHS programs, workflows, and training.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional improvement projects related to safety, environmental performance, and sustainability.
  • Track and analyze EHS KPIs, delivering insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Emergency Preparedness & Response
  • Maintain and improve the site’s emergency response programs, including hazardous materials response, spill management, and evacuation procedures.
  • Provide training, drills, and support to emergency response team members.
  • Ensure emergency equipment, systems, and plans remain effective and compliant.
