About The Position

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is looking for a Sr Maintenance & Operations Technician to join their Greenway Team! This position will assist with the upkeep of our urban greenway trail systems throughout Mecklenburg County. The incumbent will work independently maintaining several miles of our greenways including emptying trash receptacles, removing graffiti, blowing off trail surfaces, and other general upkeep tasks. Additionally, the selected candidate will be instrumental in ensuring our greenways remain safe and presentable for our community to enjoy. The successful candidate will have experience operating utility carts with pull behind blowers and have experience pulling a trailer behind a truck. This position will work daytime hours during the week and weekends only as needed based on business demands. Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience related to area of assignment
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges
  • Depending on the area of assignment, may require a Class A or B CDL with one or more of the following endorsements, H(Hazardous Materials), N(Tank Vehicle), P (Passenger Transport), S (School Bus/Passenger Transport), T (Double/Triples), or X (Tanker and hazardous Materials).
  • General knowledge of applicable computer programs
  • Heavy equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
  • Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
  • Safe work practices and hazards associated with work
  • Use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities
  • Filling out daily work sheets and other required forms
  • Heavy duty trucks, tractors, mowers and similar automotive equipment
  • Adaptability: Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements or cultures

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine cleaning services to greenways
  • Remove limbs and debris; blows leaves off sidewalks and greenways; clears mud and water from greenway tunnels after storms
  • Clearing tunnels after floods of mud and debris
  • Haul materials in dump truck for projects and pull equipment on trailers
  • Assist in manual labor such as block laying, pipe laying, fence repair, carpentry and other construction tasks
  • Open park gates and removes trash
  • Operate skid steer, excavator, mowers, chainsaws, brush cutter, chipper, power washers, ATVs, and other equipment used in facility maintenance, landscaping, roadside maintenance, and right of way cleaning.
  • Assist repair technicians in duties
  • May operate light equipment such as utility vehicles, tractors, mowers and dump trucks
  • May serve as a lead on a small work crew, community service workers, volunteers and/or part-timers
  • May receive, sort, and package materials
