Title: Sr. Legal Specialist – Provider Solutions Location: Atlanta, GA; Columbus, OH; Dallas or The Woodlands, TX (PREFERRED) Onsite/Remote/Hybrid: REMOTE POSITION SUMMARY McKesson’s General Counsel Organization (GCO) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Specialist to support Provider Solutions, including businesses such as GPO, Biologics, and Specialty Distribution. This is a high-impact role for a seasoned legal professional who demonstrates mature professional judgment, operates with a high degree of independence, and builds trusted partnerships with attorneys and business stakeholders. The Senior Legal Specialist serves as an initial point of contact for a broad range of legal and contracting matters, partners closely with supervising attorneys and cross-functional stakeholders, and plays a leadership role in advancing contracting quality, consistency, and scalability across the organization. This role does not provide legal advice independently but operates as a senior legal specialist who partners closely with supervising attorneys to advance matters efficiently and consistently.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated mature professional judgment in navigating legal, business, and interpersonal considerations, including the ability to assess risk, exercise discretion, and escalate thoughtfully.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain risk and recommended paths forward in clear, business-focused terms.
  • Typically requires approximately 7+ years of relevant legal experience in a legal specialist, paralegal, or similar advanced legal support role, with substantial commercial contracting exposure.
  • In-house experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience supporting healthcare businesses, including GPOs, specialty distribution, biologics, or other regulated healthcare services.
  • Experience partnering with privacy, compliance, and security teams on contracting matters.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or contributing to process improvement initiatives (e.g., playbooks, templates, workflow redesign, CLM tools).
  • In-house legal or legal operations experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an initial point of contact for a broad range of legal and contracting matters within Provider Solutions, independently identifying and analyzing legal, regulatory, and business issues; exercising mature professional judgment to determine appropriate paths forward; and engaging supervising attorneys strategically on novel, high-risk, or precedent-setting matters.
  • Draft, review, analyze, and negotiate commercial agreements and related documentation, utilizing approved templates and standard positions where available and escalating non-standard issues as appropriate. Agreement types may include, without limitation, customer and services agreements, vendor and procurement agreements, GPO agreements and joinders, supply and distribution agreements, consulting and professional services agreements, technology and software services agreements, and confidentiality agreements.
  • Identify legal, regulatory, and business risks; assess potential impact; propose practical mitigation strategies; and communicate recommended positions in clear, business-focused terms.
  • Partner cross-functionally with privacy, compliance, security, finance, IT, and other stakeholders to support timely, well-informed decision-making.
  • Demonstrate leadership in continuous improvement by owning and driving enhancements to contracting processes, templates, playbooks, standard positions, training, and workflows, with a focus on scalability, quality, and business enablement across Provider Solutions.
  • Prepare contract summaries, issue lists, and briefing materials for attorneys and business stakeholders; support special projects and time-sensitive initiatives as assigned.
