About The Position

The Senior Instrument Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and advanced troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems within power generation and industrial environments. This role serves as a technical expert in the field, supporting complex diagnostics, system optimization, and mentoring junior technicians while ensuring strict adherence to safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience as an Instrument Technician
  • Demonstrated experience in power generation, refinery, petrochemical, or similar industrial environments
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of instrumentation and control systems
  • Strong understanding of process control systems, analyzers, and sample systems
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Valid TWIC card (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities
  • Strong working knowledge of instrumentation systems, including transmitters, control valves, analyzers, and PLC/DCS interfaces, with experience in systems commonly used in power generation facilities (e.g., turbines, boilers, and associated control systems)
  • Ability to install, configure, and commission instrumentation systems
  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools, calibration equipment, and testing devices
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts for measurement, calibration, and system adjustments
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing field conditions
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to train and mentor junior team members
  • Sound judgment and decision-making in high-pressure environments
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and crawl for extended periods
  • Frequently lift 5–25 lbs. and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including: Hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, face shield Respiratory protection (including full-face mask) Fall protection harness Specialized protective suits (e.g., chemical/acid suits)

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, and repair instrumentation and control systems
  • Perform maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting on instrumentation systems supporting power generation equipment, including turbines, boilers, and auxiliary systems
  • Interpret and apply information from work orders, P&IDs, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Design, modify, and construct sample systems, tubing, conduit, and wiring systems
  • Perform system checks including flow, pressure, temperature, and analyzer functionality
  • Operate and maintain various types of tests and calibration equipment
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, and company procedures
  • Safely operate equipment including manlifts, forklifts, and company vehicles
  • Coordinate work activities with other technicians, contractors, and operations personnel
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians as needed
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and system optimization
