We are looking for an Instrument Technician to join our Performance Materials team in Wyandotte, MI. Come create chemistry with us! As an Instrument Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining safe, reliable, and high‑performing operations within the Polyol Plant. You will collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure instrumentation and controls function optimally, directly supporting product quality, plant safety, and equipment reliability. This role will be filled at a level commensurate with candidate experienceDuring your 8-hour shift as a Instrument Technician (Trainee - Sr.)

Requirements

  • Hold a technical degree or trade certification with 3+ years of experience in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, or Industrial Controls, or a high school diploma with 5+ years of experience.
  • Bring 3+ years of hands‑on instrumentation maintenance experience in a chemical, refinery, polymer, or manufacturing environment .
  • Demonstrate proficiency in calibration, loop‑checking, device configuration and control valve maintenance.
  • Understand P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics, and control system architecture.
  • Possess strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in a process‑manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Have experience with SAP or digital maintenance documentation tools (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on process instrumentation, including transmitters, analyzers, control valves, PLC‑based systems, and safety‑related devices.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and control issues to quickly restore equipment functionality and minimize downtime.
  • Support unit turnarounds, outages, and project work by installing, commissioning, and calibrating new or modified instruments.
  • Maintain accurate calibration records, loop sheets, and documentation in accordance with site quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Engineering to resolve recurring instrument issues and improve system reliability.
  • Ensure all work follows BASF process safety requirements, including SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems), LOTO, and safe work permitting.
  • Have flexibility to work overtime as needed.
