Atlas Roofing Shingles, Underlayments & Ventilation is seeking a Sr. Director of Manufacturing Excellence.  Travel required (40-70%) to effectively support plant performance and enterprise initiatives. The Sr. Director of Manufacturing Excellence is responsible for driving the division’s operational transformation through standardized systems, continuous improvement, and a culture of safety, reliability, and excellence. This role integrates Lean principles, world-class maintenance and reliability practices, and EHS performance into a unified strategy that improves plant performance, reduces risk, and builds sustainable capability across the manufacturing network. As a key member of the Manufacturing Leadership Team, this position ensures the division’s plants operate with consistency, efficiency, and safety — positioning the business for long-term growth and competitive advantage.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of manufacturing leadership experience with proven success in Operational Excellence or Maintenance & Reliability, in conjunction with EHS responsibilities.
  • Experience creating successful multi-site reliability and/or operational excellence programs with short and long-term objectives and measurable business results.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations, or related field
  • Leader of change, with ability to influence and gain support from operator/craft level to plant management. coordinate closely with plant managers to ensure alignment
  • Ability to lead projects with multiple stakeholders, including plant managers and the corporate functional groups, and align their objectives to meet project milestones
  • Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Excellent PC skills, including a CMMS program, Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Certified Lean Practitioner or Certified Reliability & Maintenance Professional preferred

Responsibilities

  • Align and integrate the work of Operational Excellence, Maintenance & Reliability, and EHS under one strategic umbrella.
  • Partner with Plant Managers and Functional Directors (Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, R&D) to ensure cohesive execution of improvement initiatives.
  • Champion the division’s culture of continuous improvement and best practices.
  • Oversee the Operational Excellence group and CI Managers in implementing Lean systems and structured problem-solving at all sites.
  • Lead division-wide performance improvement projects focused on OEE, waste reduction, and process capability.
  • Standardize best practices across plants through playbooks, training, and leader standard work.
  • Direct the Maintenance & Reliability function to build a proactive, data-driven asset management system.
  • Drive deployment of predictive and preventive maintenance, CMMS utilization, and reliability-centered maintenance programs.
  • Ensure Maintenance and Reliability metrics are tracked and aligned with OEE performance.
  • Oversee the Director of EHS in ensuring compliance, safe work practices, and proactive risk management across all sites.
  • Foster a zero-incident safety culture through behavioral safety programs, leadership accountability, and standardized training.
  • Implement EHS governance systems and ensure alignment with regulatory and corporate standards.
  • Develop and deploy training programs and certifications for leaders and teams in Lean, Reliability, and EHS leadership.
  • Build a bench of OpEx and Reliability talent capable of supporting future plant and divisional leadership needs.
  • Establish a common Manufacturing Excellence scorecard for safety, reliability, and operational performance.
  • Ensure timely, data-driven performance reviews and continuous improvement plans at each site.
  • Lead quarterly Manufacturing Excellence reviews with site and functional leadership.
  • 40-70% Travel required to Atlas manufacturing locations required.
