About The Position

Directs and oversees the planning and implementation credit administration and asset disposition activities for Synovus Bank to ensure that loans adhere to existing policy guidelines and that ongoing administration is adequate to maintain the commercial loan portfolio's quality and profitability. Serves as the primary point of contact for credit-related regulatory examinations and external credit reviews by Synovus' auditor. Oversees the dissemination of credit information and guidelines to the organization through loan policies, the company's intranet, and the Loan Approval Form. Leads the continuous improvement of processes, quality and consistency. Presents reports on credit administration activities and results to the Board of Directors and its subcommittees, executive management, regulators, and external auditors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics or related discipline or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Fifteen years of credit management experience including loan approval and administration, credit analysis, underwriting, monitoring credit processes, developing loan policies and recommending appropriate levels of authority and credit limits.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state credit regulations
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Synovus loan policies
  • Advanced knowledge of credit review tools and their applications
  • Thorough knowledge of foreclosure regulations and processes
  • Thorough understanding of deal terms approved in accordance with Bank guidance and target disposition strategy
  • Knowledge of credit risk analysis/underwriting principles, methods, practices and regulatory requirements

Responsibilities

  • Directs and monitors credit information and guidelines in the organization's loan policies.
  • Supports implementation of loan policy changes.
  • Ensures the prompt and accurate dissemination to credit teams of information and instructions needed to act in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for credit administration information requests from the SEC, external auditors and regulators.
  • Presents Synovus' perspective and defends its position as necessary with the Federal Reserve, and State of Georgia Department of Banking - Finance on matters related to the credit portfolio.
  • Travels to meetings with regulatory agencies to make presentations and to discuss portfolio performance and outlook.
  • Works closely with KPMG lead partner and representatives.
  • Chairs or sits on key credit and risk councils and committees.
  • Leads projects and/or participates as a member of project committees for any project that includes credit-related regulatory guidance or changes to systems, processes, procedures, or reports that have an impact on the credit portfolio.
  • Oversees the management of vendor relationships for systems and services required for credit administration across the Synovus footprint.
  • Interacts regularly with Synovus Credit Review to support improved credit administration process and practice.
  • Directs and oversees quality control and assurance for the Credit Administration areas and maintenance of credit information on the company's intranet.
  • Directs special projects for Credit Administration.
  • Ensures the team maintains compliance with all regulations and ensures all bank policies are observed.
  • Stays abreast of economic, industry and other business related issues to provide senior executive management with forecasts and potential problem areas.
  • Provides advice about the implications of economic and other issues, and the possible related strategic and/or tactical actions.
  • Provides leadership, direction and growth opportunities to members of the department, performing those responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws.
  • Interviews, hires plans, assigns and directs work.
  • Appraises team member performance and works closely with senior management and Human Resources to resolve more complex team member-related issues.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
