POSITION SUMMARY: Exciting opportunity to join the legal department of a fast-growing, publicly traded retail company. We are seeking a highly skilled attorney with 7+ years of experience related to real estate transactions and property-related legal matters. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with internal real estate, construction, and facilities teams, as well as external counsel, landlords, and developers to support the company’s growth and asset management strategies. Reporting to the Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, this role requires a proactive, self-motivated professional capable of independently managing day-to-day real estate law issues with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school.
  • Admitted and member in good standing with the PA Bar (or ability to waive in to become a member).
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant legal experience (in-house experience a plus).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills; high attention to detail.
  • Excellent judgment and the highest level of personal integrity.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and to manage resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Creative problem solver able to deliver clear, strategic advice to clients in a timely manner.
  • Able to balance multiple projects while remaining highly organized.
  • Proficient with technology, including with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other systems.
  • Able to maintain flexibility and readiness to take on other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and support as liaison with outside counsel and internal Real Estate Team members for a broad range of real estate transactions, including new store development, lease negotiations, lease renewals, amendments, assignments, terminations, relocations, and dispositions.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial leases, amendments, purchase and sale agreements, easements, license agreements, construction contracts, and related real estate documents.
  • Identify legal risks and assist in developing strategic solutions for real estate-related matters, including leasing strategy, portfolio management, land use, environmental compliance, permitting, and title/survey issues.
  • Partner with Real Estate, Construction, and Facilities teams to support property development, maintenance, and occupancy goals.
  • Provide ongoing legal support for the active real estate portfolio, including interpretation of lease provisions and advising on rights and obligations.
  • Lead responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, or inspections related to real estate assets or development projects.
  • Support internal due diligence processes and help assess real estate risks in acquisitions or divestitures.
  • Manage legal aspects of real estate disputes, including landlord/tenant issues, access disputes, and construction claims.
  • Support litigation management related to real estate matters, as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and regulations affecting commercial real estate in jurisdictions across the U.S.
