About the position
The job overview for this role is to design and build a petabyte-scale observability platform for all engineering teams to consume. This includes developing and improving instrumentation for monitoring and logging the health and availability of services, as well as designing and developing tools for metric collection, analysis, and reporting. The ideal candidate will have experience in software development, cloud service providers, and network topologies, and will be passionate about observability, efficiency, availability, scalability, and data governance.
Responsibilities
- Design and build a petabyte-scale observability platform for all engineering teams to consume.
- Develop and improve instrumentation for monitoring and logging the health and availability of services.
- Design and develop tools for metric collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Educate and lead efforts to improve observability among all engineering teams.
- Systematically improve availability by applying industry and distributed systems best practices.
- Improve performance and cost efficiency of infrastructure.
- Build and operate scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
- Use programming languages such as Go, Python, C/C++ or similar languages.
- Work with Cloud Service Providers such as AWS, GCP, Azure.
- Utilize technologies like Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, Temporal, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
- Understand network topologies, protocols, and security principles.
- Implement cloud security best practices, including encryption, access controls, and compliance standards.
- Have excellent communication skills and work well within a team.
- Be passionate about observability, efficiency, availability, scalability, and data governance.
- Possess strong problem-solving and production debugging skills.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with the business to move it forward.
- Take responsibility, ownership, and accountability.
- Bonus points for experience with observability solutions, open source/commercial observability technologies, leading technical projects, and familiarity with ClickHouse database.
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant software development industry experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems
- Software development experience in Go, Python, C/C++ or similar languages
- Experience with one or more Cloud Service Providers such as AWS, GCP, Azure
- Experience with technologies such as Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, Temporal as well as infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
- Understanding of network topologies, protocols, and security principles, such as VPNs, firewalls, and load balancers
- Knowledge of cloud security best practices, including encryption, access controls, and compliance standards like SOC2 and GDPR
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across engineering teams
- Passionate about observability, efficiency, availability, scalability, and data governance
- Strong problem-solving skills and solid production debugging skills
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and sees themselves as a partner with the business with the shared goal of moving the business forward
- High level of responsibility, ownership, and accountability
- Bonus points for experience building or maintaining observability solutions, familiarity with open source and/or commercial observability technologies, experience leading and shipping large scope technical projects, and experience with ClickHouse database.
