About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Sports Camp Site Director maintains a supportive, positive learning atmosphere for youth to participate in and practice YMCA values of Honesty, Respect, Caring, and Responsibility. The Sports Camp Site Director continuously ensures activities are appealing and connecting with youth in the community, and that staff are supporting and nurturing participants.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with 12 college credits.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Excellent active listening and internal and external communication skills
  • Proven experience in conflict resolution and conflict management
  • Completion of YMCA required trainings upon hire
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in leadership and working with children in an athletic or camp setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and leads sport specific programming, including skill development, drills, and gameplay, ensuring activities are inclusive, engaging, and appropriate for varying ages and ability levels.
  • Ensures safe use, setup, and maintenance of sports equipment and playing spaces, while proactively managing risks such as injury prevention, hydration, and weather-related conditions.
  • Fosters a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where youth are encouraged to try new activities, build confidence, and develop a sense of belonging through sports.
  • Oversee the program, activities, staff, and volunteers for the assigned location.
  • Responsible for working alongside the Sports Director to create meaningful programming that aligns with the weekly sports theme. Supervises and creates a positive rapport with youth, modeling relationship-building skills with participants and staff assisting with program activities.
  • Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
  • Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs, progress, and challenges, connecting families to the Y programs and special events.
  • Attends scheduled site director meetings and trainings led by the Youth Development and Sports Department.
  • Follows all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law and the Y. Reports and maintain proper documentation of incidents/accidents as they occur
  • Maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records, to ensure a safe and prepared practice space for youth.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support association goals.
