About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Sports Camp Youth Leader provides support to the Sports Camp Site Director by engaging with youth during sports programming in a nurturing childcare setting. The Sports Youth Leader promotes and models relationship building with youth, parents, and the YMCA community.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Completion of YMCA required trainings upon hire
  • Proof of MMR vaccination required for this position.

  • Previous experience working with children in sports preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists in leading sport-specific activities, including warm-ups, skill-building drills and gameplay, helping create an energetic and engaging experience for all participants.
  • Encourages teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence by actively participating with youth and providing positive coaching and feedback.
  • Supports the setup, use, and breakdown of sports equipment and activity spaces, ensuring safe play and helping monitor hydration, weather conditions, and participant well-being during physical activity.
  • Supports the program and activities for the assigned location, and travels to local sites to assist Site Director with delivering engaging sports focused activities serving excited school age children.
  • Supervises and nurtures children in our local school districts who are participating in purposeful sports programming and other exciting sport/movement activities, making ADA accommodation where appropriate.
  • Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program, teaching and practicing YMCA core values of Honesty, Respect, Caring, and Responsibility.
  • Welcomes and supports ongoing dialogue with families about their child’s needs and progress, connecting families to the work of the YMCA.
  • Maintain program site, equipment, and ensure the site is clean, safe, and organized for staff and youth to enjoy
  • Attends family nights, sport program activities, and staff trainings, engaging with staff and participants at meaningful events and completing required training.
  • Follows all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies, procedures, and standards as established and implemented by law, the Sports Site Director, and the Y. Reports and maintain proper documentation of incidents/accidents as they occur.
  • Follow guidelines for preparing, serving, and tracking meals/snacks
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support association goals.
