About The Position

Mature individuals needed for our Sports Camp for Grades 3-8 at the Community Pavilion. Applicants must be 18 years or older, should have some knowledge of various sports including basketball, baseball, volleyball, hockey, soccer, etc. Counselors will assist with daily games, sports and tournaments on site, and will assist with set up and clean up, among other responsibilities. Experience working with kids in sports is a plus. Individuals should possess good leadership abilities, have good communication skills and a good work ethic. The Oak Lawn Park District, incorporated in 1944, has a long and proud history of serving the recreational needs of our 56,000 residents with a myriad of recreational programs and services. We operate under the state tax cap as a municipal corporation, meaning we are our own taxing body. Overseen by a Board of five elected officials, the District manages a combination of 34 parks and facilities which cover over 280 acres. In addition, we manage a Special Recreation Cooperative that offers recreational programs and services to individuals with disabilities in 9 municipalities. Requirements

  • Applicants must be 18 years or older.
  • A minimum of one (1) year working with children ages 3rd – 8th Grade in recreational, educational or related programs preferred.
  • Must be a High School graduate, preferably college student or graduate pursuing degree in Education, Physical Education, Recreation or another related field.
  • Individuals should possess good leadership abilities
  • Have good communication skills
  • Have a good work ethic

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with kids in sports is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with Sports Camp Asst. Director or Director to review the day’s activities.
  • Assist and initiate the planning and implementation of daily camp activities. Must organize both sports and games.
  • Provide instruction for various sports and games.
  • Accurately fill out Accident/Incident Reports and submitting to Sports Camp Director.
  • Disciplining campers appropriately, following the Oak Lawn Park District Sports Camp Discipline policy. Communicate camper issues with Sports Camp Asst. Director or Director.
  • Close supervision of campers while at the pools.
  • Be in the pool with campers for close supervision.
  • Supervise campers closely while on busses.
  • Provide excellent customer service to parents
  • Keep inventory of first aid supplies on you at all times. Be prepared to administer first aid on injured campers.
  • Supervise campers during lunchtime.
  • Attend all Park District mandatory training sessions and meetings.
  • Become CPR and First Aid certified.
