About The Position

Responsible for conducting speech, language, voice, and communication evaluations for the special needs children who are referred to the unit to assess their respective level of functioning and provide appropriate interventions that will meet their individual needs. Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and that of the Department and the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of speech therapy and swallowing techniques and standards.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, as well as for career counseling and guidance.
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Certificate and/or specialized training in meditation and laughter yoga is a must
  • Minimum Experience: 1-3 years of clinical experience in speech therapy.
  • Languages: Arabic and English. French is an asset.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Applications

Responsibilities

  • Assess and treat swallowing and communication difficulties arising from a variety of causes, e.g. congenital problems (such as cleft palate) or acquired disorders after a stroke or injury.
  • Address speech problems such as speech and language delay, stuttering and pronunciation.
  • Assess communication environments surrounding the patient.
  • Address written language problems such as learning disabilities and dyslexia.
  • Create, implement and revise the individual treatment program.
  • Instruct and advise parents on a speech, language, and communication treatment plan.
  • Write detailed reports upon evaluation as well as monitor and evaluate patient's progress.
  • Work with patients on a one-to-one basis, and in groups, to deliver therapy.
  • Consult and work with team members of the Department of Psychiatry multidisciplinary team to incorporate appropriate strategies and goals into the child's plan to ensure the child fullest development.
  • Maintain confidentiality about patients and their families.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.
