About The Position

Blythedale Children's Hospital is a leading pediatric hospital dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate care. As the only free-standing children's specialty hospital in New York State, we admit patients with complex medical conditions to our state-of-the-art 94-bed inpatient facility from academic medical centers across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Overview The Therapy Aide – Speech Therapy is an experienced early childhood professional providing therapeutic and educational support within our on-site Early Childhood Center. Under the direct guidance of the Classroom Teacher as well as Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists; the Therapy Aide ensures smooth operation of the classroom and the successful implementation of each child’s therapeutic plan. The Therapy Aide is an essential part of our interdisciplinary team. This position reports to the Director of Speech Therapy. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an early childhood education setting (e.g. preschool, daycare, Head Start).
  • Fluency in English.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively collaborating and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, transfer, and reposition patients safely.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, pull, carry, bend, and crouch.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with special needs children or in a pediatric clinical therapy setting is preferred.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities in another language is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Child Engagement & Therapeutic Support Goal Carryover: Actively engage children in activities to reinforce therapeutic goals (from all disciplines) as directed by the lead teachers and clinical team. This includes facilitating specific movement, communication, and fine motor tasks during play and routine.
  • Activity Facilitation: Lead and participate in classroom activities, including Circle Time, small group work, arts and crafts, and independent play, ensuring activities are accessible and meaningful for all children.
  • Daily Care: Assist with feeding & mealtime routines.
  • Behavioral Support: Model positive behaviors and assist the teaching staff in implementing strategies to support children's emotional regulation and social interactions.
  • Materials Management: Regularly stock, organize, and rotate materials, toys, and therapeutic equipment to ensure variety, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Supply Ordering: Monitor inventory, prepare orders for necessary classroom, office and therapy supplies. Ensure all materials are received and stored appropriately.
  • Maintenance & Tidiness: Perform minor cleaning and tidying throughout the day to maintain a safe, organized, and hygienic learning environment (e.g., wiping down tables, shelving, counter tops, toys, cleaning up spills, organizing centers & therapy treatment spaces).
