About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs that encourages and supports teamwork and diversity. The Speech Therapist works as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide the best evidence-based practice evaluation and therapy techniques. The role involves performing evaluations and developing effective treatment plans to restore, maintain or prevent decline of resident function, by planning and administering medically prescribed therapy treatments in accordance with federal, state and professional standards governing the facility. This position will provide therapy evaluations and treatments for speech, language, cognitive, voice and swallowing disorders in a skilled nursing facility and in an outpatient setting.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in speech-language pathology
  • Must have an Arkansas license
  • Must have an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence or be eligible pending completion of Clinical Fellowship Year
  • Must possess problem-solving skills of the type and at a level necessary to accomplish the job
  • Clinical experience with the geriatric population
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to bend, stand, walk, eyesight, hearing, drive, speak, and repetitious movement
  • Lifting, weight lifted 50 lbs. lift to: waist, 50 lbs. chest, 50 lbs. above head 20 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Works as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide the best evidence-based practice evaluation and therapy techniques
  • Performs evaluations and develops effective treatment plans to restore, maintain or prevent decline of resident function
  • Plans and administers medically prescribed therapy treatments in accordance with federal, state and professional standards governing the facility
  • Provides therapy evaluations and treatments for speech, language, cognitive, voice and swallowing disorders in a skilled nursing facility and in an outpatient setting
  • Conducts speech-language evaluations
  • Writes reports detailing scores, descriptions of patients, and the need for therapies
  • Implements speech therapy
  • Documents services provided
  • Completes billing and charting procedures
  • Participates in treatment teams
  • Maintains knowledge of theories and techniques in the field of communication disorders

  • Documents daily treatments and observations in patient’s progress notes
  • Prepares monthly patient performance summary as related to program goals and objectives
  • Other duties as assigned
