About The Position

Benhaven School, located in Wallingford, Connecticut, is looking for a full time Speech-Language Pathologist. Benhaven School is approved by the Connecticut State Department of Education and provides educational services and support to approximately 43 children and adolescents ages 5-22 with intellectual disability, autism and other comorbid disabilities (i.e., down-syndrome, cerebral palsy, apraxia of speech, anxiety and sleep disorders etc.). The school is a twelve-month program with two professional development days, providing 241 days of school. The school has early dismissal every Wednesday for training and collaboration. The intensive nature of the program is critical to the educational success of our students. Status: Full-time, exempt Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm Hours: 37.5 weekly

Requirements

  • Candidate must have CCC and be licensed by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health
  • Candidate must hold an educator certification granted by Connecticut State Department of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Speech-Language Pathologist helps students develop and refine their expressive, receptive and social pragmatic communication skills in order for students to build meaningful relationships with others and participate effectively leading to an improved quality of life.
  • Speech-Language department supports communication in a variety of settings to promote generalization of skills through the community program and adopt a push-in model working with students in their classroom.
  • Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for participating in team and PPT meetings, and providing and participating in in-service training.
  • Benhaven School embraces a collaborative interdisciplinary approach, working across disciplines and with families to meet the needs of our students
  • Provide students with direct individual and/or group Speech and Language services as well as indirect hours to work collaboratively with classroom staff to support the students’ development of communication skills.
  • The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for completing evaluations and assessments as agreed upon by the PPT.
  • The Speech-Language Pathologist oversees the variety of Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) systems taught to and used by students (i.e., approximated sign, picture exchange, and low- and high-tech systems).
  • Maintain required documentation.
