About The Position

Array Architects is seeking a Senior Specification Writer to serve as an integral member of the firm’s Quality Assurance Team, reporting to and working closely with the Quality Assurance Director. This role is critical to maintaining technical excellence, consistency, and risk mitigation across Array’s healthcare-focused practice. The Senior Specification Writer will support complex project delivery through the development of clear, coordinated, and well-executed specifications, while also partnering closely with project teams to mentor staff, encourage collaboration, and identify opportunities to continuously improve the specification-writing process. The ideal candidate is technically strong, highly collaborative, and genuinely enjoys working with teams to elevate quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture required; current Architectural Registration strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 15 -20 years of professional experience, with demonstrated experience in healthcare architecture.
  • Proven experience leading specifications on complex, technically demanding projects.
  • Advanced understanding of architectural building systems, construction methods, and material applications.
  • Technology proficient in specification tools and software.
  • Strong working knowledge of building codes and the ability to research, interpret, and apply requirements within technical documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and mentor staff with varying levels of experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Clear, effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based, multi-office environment.
  • Ability to travel periodically as required; overtime may be necessary to meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project-specific Project Manuals in accordance with Array standards, QA/QC protocols, and healthcare best practices.
  • Manage specifications across multiple projects, phases, milestones, and delivery methods.
  • Collaborate with Architectural and Interior Design leadership to align specifications with design intent and technical requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to mentor staff in specification writing, coordination, and best practices.
  • Coordinate Project Manual content across all disciplines and consultants to ensure consistency and completeness.
  • Review in-progress drawings to verify coordination with specifications; identify gaps, conflicts, and risk areas, and recommend improvements in alignment with QA objectives.
  • Partner with the Quality Assurance Director and QA Team to identify opportunities for improvement in specification workflows, standards, and tools.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of master specifications, including project-type, regional, sustainability, and risk-informed content.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable codes, standards, and industry reference materials and incorporate them into technical documents.
  • Participate in project and QA-related meetings to support coordination, quality, and delivery.
  • Perform thorough self-review of work for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
  • Foster a collaborative, solutions-oriented environment that supports knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships in compliance with firm policies and QA requirements.
  • Support the firm’s sustainability goals through responsible material selection and specification strategies.
  • Contribute to the advancement of BIM and technology workflows as they relate to specifications, QA, and documentation quality.
