Primarily responsible for providing clinical expertise in-patient care for those undergoing surgery in their service area. Additional responsibilities include supporting the department of surgical services in the provision of patient care by coordination of instruments and supplies necessary to perform surgery efficiently in their service area. Other responsibilities include educational development of the Registered Nurse, Surgical technologist and unlicensed employee in the service area through formal and informal presentations. Responsibilities also include assisting in ongoing evaluation of the above staff members and provisions of clinical leadership to guide patient care delivery, patient flow and unit operations for the assigned shift. Examples of duties include: Assists coworkers in delivery of patient care by demonstrating a procedural technique, observing the coworker in a return demonstration and evaluating the coworker’s performance. Plans and develops a formal educational presentation. Provide communications to facilitate patient care delivery and unit efficiency. Provide case specific supplies, instrumentation and equipment. Assist with computer management of charge process and preference list updates. Adheres to and supports the Patient Safety Protocol. Support and assist with staff cross - training. Collaborate with Coordinator of Surgical Services in evaluation of staff members.
