What You Will Achieve Reporting to the External Supply Global Biopharma 1 Lead, the External Supply Specialty Care Lead will lead the strategic direction and has overall accountability for the supply, business and financial performance of a large network of Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) supplying Pfizer medicines. The Specialty Care Lead will lead his/her team in overseeing the relationship with a very large portfolio of CMOs in the Drug Product & Packaging arena which serve Pfizer’s HBU therapeutic area. The Specialty Care Lead will interface with Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) matrixed organizations to ensure the sustainable quality, compliant & safe product supply from its network of CMOs How You Will Achieve It The incumbent is accountable for providing leadership to a team of Operations Leads covering these activities. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Requirements

  • Minimum degree required Bachelor’s degree in Bio/Chemical engineering, Bio/chemistry, Biology or a related discipline; and 12+ years of professional experience within pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Masters degree and 10+ years of professional experience within pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in Small or Large Molecule operations and/or Complex Sterile Injectables platforms (internal or external manufacture).
  • Experience in Solid Oral Dose (Tablets, capsules), suspensions, vials & Packaging highly advantageous.
  • Ideally 3-5 years in a leadership capacity managing a team.
  • Strong and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of contract manufacturing models and operations.
  • Strong business & financial acumen with manufacturing and supply chain experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to navigate and operate in dynamic, multicultural and matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and execute within a matrix organization interact effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization, including senior internal and/or external personnel on matters often requiring coordination between organizations adapt to changing priorities, meeting deadlines, and working well under pressure.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 30%)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in more than one technologies – API, Drug Substance, Drug Product, Devices, Packaging - is highly advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Providing leadership and direction of the Specialty Care (SC) Team of Operation Leads that are responsible for managing the product supply from a large CMO network.
  • Leading the matrixed SC Virtual Site Leadership Team (VSLT) to establish the necessary macro-level CMO strategies and network direction for the team , inclusive of overall supply and net income benefit strategies.
  • Ensuring the cross-functional oversight management of third party vendors (CMOs) is followed to overall ES standardization to ensure customer needs are being met through the manufacture and supply of drug products.
  • Accountable to manage and provide operational and business & contractual relationship oversight for a network of CMOs in specific technological category through the use of Virtual Site Operations Teams (VSOT) & VSLT.
  • Accountable to lead overall Business Development activities for transactions involving 3rd Party CMOs within the BU.
  • Responsible for the CMO strategy development that meets short and long-term Business needs working in conjunction with multiple stakeholders – with strong engagement with PGS NDP team. This includes driving sourcing options that provide overall business & wider PGS benefit.
  • Leveraging IMEX, implement governance practices that lead a group of ES Operations Leads & partner functions to deliver on supply, quality and compliance and financial performance of the CMO . This includes ensuring the timely supply, executing product launches to meet customer requirements and driving cost savings initiatives (i.e., Op Ex). This also includes monitoring and implementing corrective actions related to supply performance/Balanced Scorecard targets.
  • Manage effectively and through influence a matrix team of functional subject matter experts (SMEs) such as GSC, GTEL, EHS, ES Quality, Finance as well as building strong collaboration with peers in the PGS Operational Units to ensure best outcomes for PGS utilizing the internal/external network .
  • Attract, develop, motivate, and coach colleagues to effectively manage through a matrix operations team approach. In doing develop strong technical and business savvy colleagues that provides talent levers for Pfizer and PGS growth.
  • Engage in the preparation of strategic plans within the ES GB1 Leadership Team and lead execution of these plans and overall ES Strategic Pillars accordingly
  • Leading the interface with key global senior internal and external stakeholders (this includes external agencies, communications office, Pfizer leaders etc..) relative to supply, audits, enterprise subject matter expertise etc.
  • Interfacing with Global Launch teams for commercialization transition of new product launches. This includes leveraging the External Supply operating model to ensure the successful transition from launch through commercialization
