About The Position

The Sports Information Specialist assists in the development and distribution of various publications for men's and women's sports programs, writes press releases, takes sports action photos, assists in game-day operations, updates the Athletics web site, and assists the Associate Director for Media Relations with public relations activities within intercollegiate athletics, and serves as a liaison between intercollegiate athletics and the media as required. Employment in this position is contingent upon compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA and Conference affiliation.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Associate Director for Media Relations with all aspects of media relations.
  • Provides information to the public via print and electronic media on specific and assigned men's and women's intercollegiate athletics programs.
  • Travels extensively to assigned athletic contests and events, and maintains statistics.
  • Attend all home sporting events for assigned sports, maintaining statistics at each contest.
  • Designs, writes, and edits media guides and news releases for assigned sports.
  • Prepares and distributes press releases, fact sheets, and other related information.
  • Generates updated statistics and standings for assigned sports on a regular basis.
  • Accurately completes NCAA statistical reports in a timely manner.
  • Corresponds with newspapers and regional and national athletic conferences.
  • Write press releases and game recaps for assigned sports, in addition to game day programs.
  • Keep Athletics website updated as well as social media outlets such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter for assigned sports.
  • Works closely with student-athletes, coaches and media to line up interviews and conduct research.
  • Maintains communication with sports editors, beat writers from local, state, and national publications.
