The Specialist – OSHA Compliance for tank washing operations is a critical role ensuring the safety and regulatory compliance of all tank cleaning and maintenance activities. This position is responsible for implementing and enforcing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, developing safety programs, and maintaining comprehensive compliance with all relevant Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. The Specialist - OSHA Compliance plays a key role in fostering a safety-conscious culture and minimizing risks associated with tank washing operations, including exposure to hazardous materials and confined space entry.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in occupational safety and health, with at least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour General Industry or Construction Certification, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or other relevant safety certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure OSHA Compliance: Stay abreast of all current OSHA regulations, standards, and interpretations related to tank washing, confined space entry, hazardous material handling, respiratory protection, lockout/tagout, and other pertinent safety areas. Proactively monitor operations to identify and correct any non-compliance issues. Implement and maintain a comprehensive OSHA compliance program, including written policies, procedures, and documentation. Conduct OSHA inspections and audits.
  • Risk Assessment and Hazard Analysis: Conduct thorough and regular risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHAs) for all tank washing operations. Identify and evaluate potential hazards, such as chemical exposure, fire and explosion risks, falls, and confined space entry hazards. Develop and implement effective control measures to eliminate or mitigate identified hazards. Regularly inspect tank washing equipment, PPE, and facilities to ensure they meet safety standards.
  • Safety Program Development: Assist Safety Director with the design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive safety program tailored to tank washing operations. Develop and maintain written safety procedures, work instructions, and safe work practices for all tank cleaning tasks. Establish and enforce safety rules and guidelines for all personnel involved in tank washing operations. Create and implement emergency response plans, including procedures for chemical spills, fires, and rescue operations.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver engaging and comprehensive safety training programs as needed for facility management and employees involved in tank washing operations. Ensure that facility management and employees receive initial and ongoing training on OSHA regulations, safe work practices, emergency procedures, and the proper use of PPE. Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce safety awareness and promote a safety culture. Run training completion reports to ensure compliance with training plans.
  • Compliance Reporting: Maintain meticulous records of safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, training activities, and other compliance-related documentation. Generate and submit required safety reports to management, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders. Track and analyze safety metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Incident Management: Lead investigations of all accidents, near misses, and other safety incidents. Analyze incident data to identify root causes and contributing factors. Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of similar incidents. Collaborate with facility management and employees to foster a culture of continuous safety improvement.
  • Equipment and PPE Maintenance: Ensure that all PPE and safety equipment is regularly inspected, tested, and calibrated. Train employees on the proper use, care, and maintenance of PPE. Manage inventory and procurement of safety equipment and PPE.
