About The Position

The Development department is AIUSA’s primary driver of income generation and supports AIUSA’s mission and Amnesty International’s global human rights initiatives. The department’s goal is to ensure long-term financial sustainability by identifying new revenue streams, while also prioritizing retention, engagement, and upgrades of our existing supporter base through extraordinary donor experiences that inspire them to become life-long supporters. The Monthly Giving Specialist is part of the Monthly Giving Team and reports to the Senior Director of Monthly Giving. The role provides a wide range of support, including growing acquisition, increasing retention rates, and managing data maintenance across the monthly giving channels. In addition to supporting the growth of recurring donations, the Monthly Giving Specialist will also work creatively to develop and test methods for optimizing donation conversions. This position also manages relationships with vendors at a strategic level. This role is a union position and covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Communication Workers of America (CWA), Local 1180.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of nonprofit customer service and fundraising best practices, including moves management and monthly giving strategies (appeals, renewals, stewardship, upgrades, retention, and attrition)
  • Demonstrated ability to engage a diverse range of supporters through effective verbal and written communication, active listening, and relationship-building
  • Skilled in interpreting performance data, developing strategic plans, and executing program implementation tasks with technical expertise and independence
  • Understanding of direct marketing and fundraising programs, including audience segmentation, performance reporting, and data analytics
  • High standards of ethics and confidentiality, assuring discreet handling of donor records and organizational information
  • Excellent communicator with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, attention-to-detail, with an ability to multitask and manage multiple deadlines
  • Ability to embed inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) best practices into both strategy and operations
  • BA/BS and minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and/or sufficient relevant work experience
  • Experience in fundraising or donor giving
  • Knowledge of AFP standards of practice for gift officers required
  • Proficient in Fundraising/Donor databases and ROI required
  • Ability to occasionally travel required, e.g., staff retreats, regional office visits, annual AIUSA conference, vendor and canvassing sites
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing at a desk and working on a computer

Nice To Haves

  • Experience to-face to face fundraising is a plus
  • Canvassing programs experience is a plus
  • Experience working with external vendors and agencies
  • Experience working in the non-profit advocacy, human rights organization and fundraising space a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design, produce, and interpret performance reports that monitor campaign outcomes with actionable insights
  • Identify trends and opportunities using data-informed improvements
  • Proactively identify and resolve data inconsistencies, manage account records and fundraising data
  • Develop streamlined processes to service the recurring donor file more effectively; leverage new technologies where applicable
  • Think strategically to drive and achieve both short and long-term objectives to deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Work closely with Senior Director, Monthly Giving on executing the growth strategies for the program across all channels including but not limited to direct mail, face-to-face canvassing, telemarketing and digital
  • Manage the creative and vetting process for all monthly giving communication, ensuring all campaigns are approved and rolled out on time
  • Monitor and take action to improve retention of monthly donors, including point of contact for all Member Services inquiries and third-party agency vendors
  • Creative development and fulfillment of monthly donor communications driving stewardship and retention
  • Manage vendor relationships and analyze results to improve both online and offline fundraising revenue generation
  • Maintain accurate donor records in the CRM database, including contact information, moves management updates, and gift documentation to support increased retention of the existing monthly giving file
  • Manage and optimize ROI database management for recurring donors
  • Oversee the import/integration of cross-channel recurring donor data to ensure accurate records within ROI
  • Audit, update, and maintain donor records related to sustainer frequency, contribution amounts, payment method, and credit card information
  • Ensure prompt submission of invoices for the Monthly Giving Department
  • Work with Senior Director, Monthly Giving to ensure data integrity of monthly giving file
  • Provide administrative support of ROI database management for recurring donors
  • Update changes in sustainer frequency, dollar amount, payment method, credit card information, audit/merging of account records, and other fundraising data
  • Develop streamlined processes to service the recurring donor file more effectively; leverage new technologies where applicable
  • Other duties as assigned
