Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Material Science & Engineering or related discipline.
  • Prior experience with metallographic sample preparation, materials processing, heat treatment, testing and characterization.
  • Prior laboratory experience with materials evaluations and characterization.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new areas of research
  • Ability to work with diverse, high-paced teams
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on metallography experience.
  • Hands-on experience in metal powder handling, materials testing, characterization, and corrosion testing of metallic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform metallographic preparation, thermo-mechanical processing, testing, and characterization of metallic materials.
  • Identify key technical issues, develop new processes and iteratively improve system performance through experimentation and process optimization with assistance from scientists and engineers
  • Independently own and operate various pieces of laboratory equipment, investigate novel material components and integrated material systems, and utilize basic analytical methods.
  • Be responsible for the safe and compliant use/operation and disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials
  • Build relationships with colleagues at GE Aerospace Research with a wide variety of technical expertise and business responsibilities.
  • Be a member of a multidisciplinary team developing metallic materials.
