About The Position

Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant / Scheduler to support our Oncology and Infusion Services team. This hybrid role primarily functions as a Medical Assistant, providing direct patient care and clinical support, while also assisting with scheduling coordination for oncology and infusion services. The position plays a critical role in ensuring a seamless patient experience from intake through treatment by supporting both clinical and administrative workflows. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, highly organized, and comfortable balancing both clinical responsibilities and scheduling tasks in a fast-paced specialty care environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current AHA BLS (Heartsaver) certification required
  • Strong clinical and patient care skills
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and scheduling
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems and basic computer programs

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
  • Clinical experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
  • Experience in a specialty clinic, oncology, or infusion setting a plus
  • Scheduling or healthcare administrative experience preferred
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient intake including vital signs, medical history, medications, and allergies
  • Assist providers with exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Administer medications and injections under supervision and within scope of practice
  • Perform clinical tasks such as EKGs, dressing changes, and other ordered procedures
  • Prepare and maintain exam and treatment areas, ensuring cleanliness and proper stocking
  • Provide patient education and reinforce provider instructions
  • Follow all infection prevention and patient safety protocols
  • Assist clinical staff with coordination of patient care and treatment flow
  • Support chart preparation, order verification, and follow-up care coordination
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, and staff to ensure efficient patient throughput
  • Schedule oncology clinic and infusion appointments accurately and efficiently
  • Provide patients with appointment details, preparation instructions, and arrival times
  • Coordinate scheduling based on provider availability, treatment protocols, and equipment needs
  • Reschedule patients and manage scheduling changes as needed
  • Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries in a professional and timely manner
  • Communicate scheduling updates and coordinate follow-up appointments
  • Direct clinical questions to appropriate staff when necessary
  • Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information
  • Assist with pre-certification and authorization processes
  • Ensure accurate documentation in the electronic health record
