About The Position

The Behavioral Health Support Specialist provides vital behavioral health support in collaboration with primary care providers and licensed behavioral health clinicians. The role involves triaging patients, facilitating treatment involvement, and coordinating care through phone-based interactions. This position emphasizes administrative functions, crisis support, resource advocacy, and community liaison activities, with minimal face-to-face contact. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proficient in Microsoft Office and spreadsheet tools, and comfortable managing a high volume of administrative tasks, chart reviews, and crisis escalations.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related mental health field.
  • Experience: 0-3 years of relevant healthcare, mental health, or community-based experience.
  • Licensure: In alignment with IN state code IC 25-23.6-4-1; LBSW required for those with a Bachelor’s of Social Work.
  • Licensure Deadline: Licensed by June 1, 2026.
  • Certifications: Crisis intervention certification may be required or preferred.
  • BLS certification may be required.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Ability to triage, understand different diagnoses, and manage escalation effectively.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic interventions, legal mandates, and crisis de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong communication skills, advocacy, and resource referral capabilities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with community and healthcare partners.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and spreadsheet management.
  • Experience with intake, triage, and administrative workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct mental health triage of patients upon provider referral, assessing psychosocial risk factors, reaction to illness, and coping abilities under supervision.
  • Facilitate patient engagement in treatment and educational activities, supporting behavioral health needs remotely.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, families, medical staff, and outside agencies, including child and adult protective services, law enforcement, schools, and community organizations.
  • Perform functions related to utilization review and discharge planning in collaboration with licensed behavioral health clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation, supporting safety and therapeutic environment principles.
  • Support placement coordination and resource advocacy, helping connect patients to community services and ensuring proper care transitions.
  • Review charts, document interactions, and update spreadsheets or triage charts for workflow management.
  • Manage heavy administrative tasks, including chart reviews, data entry, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Utilize spreadsheets and triage charts for workflow tracking, case prioritization, and escalation management.
  • Engage in heavy administrative duties with minimal face-to-face interaction, primarily via phone and electronic communication.
