About The Position

The Philanthropies Department (PHI) helps to invite individuals and families to follow the example of the Lord, Jesus Christ, as they live the two great commandments to love God and their neighbors. Giving helps members and others experience the joy and blessings of participating in God's work as they choose to follow inspiration and prophetic direction. To do this, PHI facilitates and invites voluntary philanthropic giving (beyond tithes and fast offering) for programs and projects approved by the First Presidency. PHI teaches, engages, coordinates, invites, and reports regarding voluntary philanthropic contributions to the Church and its affiliated charities. This Specialist, Annual Giving role exists to facilitate and implement the Annual Giving function for Philanthropies (PHI) in support of Church Higher Education. This position develops new processes and operational plans as well as assists in the development of new programs to support team and organization strategy. The position works with internal and external partners to acquire acceptance of new concepts, practices, and approaches. This position must identify problems and adapt methods and techniques used in fundraising programming. The employee in this role must lead a variety of groups through a deep knowledge of one to two job functions, as well as a broad knowledge of several other functions related to annual giving fundraising. Customers include Philanthropies (PHI) directors and managers; and the presidents, advancement vice-presidents, deans or other key academic leaders of the Church's educational institutions of higher education. The customers expect philanthropic goals to be met, relationships with donors developed and maintained, requisite information shared and safeguarded, and institutional policies followed and upheld. This is an intermediate-level individual contributor.

Requirements

  • Must uphold and adhere to all policies and procedures of the Church and its affiliated charities, be ethical, and demonstrate professional demeanor at all times and in all situations.
  • A bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in a business or relationship related field, or any combination of equivalent relavant education and/or experience
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to work in sensitive situations with administrators, directors, and other department/institution leadership, including an ability to keep confidences
  • Writing skills and a working knowledge of print, website, and electronic media content delivery, including proven proficiency with computer and software tools (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, other design tools, etc.)
  • Ability to engage with multiple projects and people effectively and efficiently
  • The ability to work with other individuals and groups, including donors, civic, business, and professional leaders
  • Professional in demeanor, appearance and language, with English verbal/written communication skills, including the ability to receive and act upon feedback in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to provide an exceptional level of customer service to clients including prospects, donors, institutional leaders, and Philanthropies (PHI) colleagues
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to travel and interact with individuals in a variety of locations requiring ability to use various forms of public and private transportation
  • Be physically available (on-site for preparation, production, and/or performance) of donor outreach activities and team collaboration as needed
  • Ability to travel and interact with individuals in a variety of locations
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, repetitive motion for typing and filing, and capacity to lift 25-30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the process of philanthropy in the Church to annual giving donors and key internal/external partners, and master the case statement details for approved priorities and projects.
  • Engage by supporting maintenance of a pipeline portfolio of annual giving donors and prospective donors.
  • Assists in developing a strategic plan that aligns with the goals of each institution served.
  • Provides general oversight and delivery of Annual Giving solicitation and recognition projects and programs.
  • Depending on area of focus the Annual Giving Specialist will create and implement solicitation and recognition projects.
  • Develops, collects, and analyzes data to direct the work.
  • Frequently assess all campaigns and programs to determine purpose and value.
  • Depending on area of focus the Annual Giving Specialist is a liaison to multiple internal and external partners, such as PHI Marketing & Communications, PHI Technology & Data Services, and vendor management.
  • The Annual Giving Specialist coordinates and assists with part-time student employees according to the assigned area of focus provided.
  • Invite by overseeing sharing of invitations for donors and prospects to consider making a gift through the execution of each institution's strategic solicitation schedule.
  • Report by overseeing, returning, and reporting on the potential impact of annual gifts from donors including mass gift acknowledgments.
  • Assists in establishing and coordinating processes for giving programs, and communication needs with partners.
  • Report results to Annual Giving management and identified partners.
