About The Position

Produce Spanish translations of documents, including reports of student’s assessments. Provide oral translation services for communication with parents. Provide interpreting services during Speech Language therapy sessions. Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED from an accredited institution
  • 48 hours of college coursework
  • Pass Spring ISD’s NCLB test in the areas of Reading, Writing and Mathematics
  • Ability to draft, edit and produce the final copy of documents submitted for translation from English to Spanish and vice versa.
  • Understanding of the nuances of both the Spanish and English language in order to produce documents that address the needs of parents.
  • Ability to communicate fluently, both verbally and in writing, in both English and Spanish.
  • Ability to read and comprehend both Spanish and English documents
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word for producing documents, including manipulation of tables and graphics
  • Command of the use of oral and written convention for both the English and Spanish language

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a translator of written documents
  • Have an associate’s (or higher) degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience in a public school setting.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and update all necessary forms
  • Produce an electronic version of documents and new forms from English to Spanish
  • Schedule and translate at ARD/re-evaluation meetings for diagnosticians and speech pathologists
  • Translate any documents needed for Special Education using Microsoft Word and other computer programs
  • Assist with translation of phone calls from Spanish speakers to the Administration Building
  • Participate in home visits for translation
  • Provide oral translation from English to call parents for teachers and parents conferences
  • Assist with home visits from Community Youth Service Workers
  • Contact parents to schedule screenings, assessments, and ARD meetings
  • Contact parents for additional information
  • Act as a liaison between parents and various social services
  • Communicate the screening and assessment process to parents
  • Provide assistance in administering the screening and assessment tests through interpretation
  • Provide assistance in providing speech language therapy through interpretation
  • Interpret and explain procedural safeguards at ARD meetings
  • Describe the possible services and programs to parents provide accurate translation of English language documents including materials for student
  • Assist in completing paperwork
  • Other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director for Accountability and Related Services and/or Special Education Executive Director
  • Have good organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Provide accurate Spanish translation of English language documents, including materials for student use and communication to parents.
  • Provide accurate oral translation from English to Spanish at meetings, parent phone calls, and at parent conferences.
  • Produce electronic versions of documents in Spanish which replicate the same aspects of Microsoft Word present in the original English version documents.
