About The Position

Glenwood’s Allan Cott School is now hiring for a Special Education Teacher to serve children with autism between the ages of 6 and 21. Glenwood is a highly supportive team environment with a strong focus on constant interdisciplinary collaboration between Teachers, Behavior Analysts, Speech Language Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists. This position will also receive training to become a Registered Behavior Technician. Extensive daily support is provided on implementing behavior support plans and classroom wide interventions to promote students’ communication skills and foster independence. The successful candidate will have a strong desire to serve their students and fellow team members through creating a structured and positive learning environment. This is a 12-month teaching position and offers great flexibility to take time off across the whole year. Glenwood also provides teachers with all classroom supplies and materials needed to provide high quality instruction and learning experiences to students. Shift: Monday – Friday 7:00am – 3:00pm

Requirements

  • Experience working with special education students
  • Bachelor level degree in Education required.
  • Certification to teach Special Education is required.
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Must clear all background checks and pre-hire testing (ABI/FBI and Dept. of Human Resources Child Abuse/Neglect Registry clearance…etc.)
  • A valid Alabama driver's license and must be insurable through the agency’s insurance carrier
  • Must be certified or certifiable in agency provided trainings, to include CPR, First Aid, Managing Crisis Safely and Medication Administration Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA preferred

Responsibilities

  • Instruct individuals and groups in subject area
  • Provide specially designed instruction for eligible special education students.
  • Plan curriculum and lessons.
  • Evaluate and monitor student progress based on classroom performance, test scores, and observation of behavior.
  • Support objectives and interventions of the educational program.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and structured physical environment of the classroom.
  • Maintain contact with parents of students and/or professionals concerning student progress.
  • Develop IEPs addressing specific academic, functional, behavioral, and speech needs of students
  • Prepare report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, and other documentation as required.
  • Function as integral member of treatment/IEP team, addressing needs of students.
