About The Position

The Certified Special Education Interventionist is responsible for providing targeted interventions and support to students with disabilities and those at risk of academic or developmental delays. This role involves assessing student needs, developing individualized intervention plans, collaborating with educators and support staff, and monitoring student progress to ensure academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Special Education, Intervention, or a related field.
  • State certification/licensure as a Special Education Teacher or Interventionist.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, learning differences, or developmental delays.
  • Knowledge of and experience with RTI/MTSS frameworks, differentiated instruction, and behavioral interventions.
  • Familiarity with IEP development and implementation.
  • Strong instructional and intervention skills in literacy, numeracy, and behavioral support.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret student data to drive instruction.
  • Proficiency in assistive technology and adaptive learning tools.
  • Empathy, patience, and a student-centered mindset.
  • A valid MS license with one of the following endorsements: 115, 116, 117, 119, 120, 154, 155, 163, 174, 181, 185, 188, 192, 486, 487, 488

  • Additional endorsements in specific intervention areas (e.g., reading, math, behavior) are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Student Assessment & Individualized Planning Conduct formal and informal assessments to identify students' strengths, needs, and learning gaps.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust intervention plans based on student progress and Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Collaborate with teachers, psychologists, and other specialists to develop and implement Response to Intervention (RTI) strategies.
  • Instructional Support & Intervention Provide direct instruction in small groups and one-on-one settings using evidence-based intervention strategies.
  • Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to meet diverse learning needs and accommodate students with disabilities.
  • Utilize assistive technology and specialized instructional techniques to enhance learning.
  • Support classroom teachers in differentiating instruction to address the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Support students in developing self-regulation, coping skills, and social-emotional competencies.
  • Work with students to build independence and self-advocacy skills in an academic setting.
  • Collaboration & Communication Work closely with general education teachers, special education teachers, and related service providers to support inclusive education.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, contributing data, progress reports, and instructional recommendations.
  • Maintain open communication with parents/guardians, providing updates on student progress and strategies for home reinforcement.
  • Serve as a liaison between school personnel and external service providers, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and behavioral specialists.
  • Data Collection & Progress Monitoring Track and analyze student performance data to assess the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and intervention strategies.
  • Adjust intervention methods based on data-driven decision-making.
  • Professional Development & Compliance Stay updated on best practices in special education, intervention strategies, and legal requirements (e.g., IDEA, Section 504, ADA).
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district policies related to special education services.
  • Participate in professional development workshops, training, and collaborative learning communities.
