About The Position

Plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with a variety of communication disorders. Evaluate students and provide therapy to eliminate or reduce impairments which impact the students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA)
  • Current NPI number
  • Knowledge of and experience with a variety of assessment tools
  • Knowledge of therapy strategies to address a variety of communication disorders
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement strategies to address student behavior
  • Able to communicate and collaborate effectively with others and have strong organizational skills
  • Able to meet timelines
  • One (1) year supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience

Responsibilities

  • Assessment and Therapy Conduct independent evaluations to assess students with speech or language disorders and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Evaluate student progress and make determinations regarding therapy services based on data collection.
  • Create progress reports quarterly.
  • Conduct re-evaluations of identified students in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee.
  • Assist in interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with communication disorders or conditions according to district procedures.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans for students as determined by the ARD/IEP Committee.
  • Develop clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements.
  • Comply with all timelines and collaborate with campus sped team regarding compliance.
  • Complete all needed documentation of SHARS billable services weekly.
  • Consultation Consult with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals, the needs of the student, and involvement in remedial process.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities and assistive technology to improve communication skills of students.
  • Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and work more effectively with students with communication deficits.
  • Provide information and support to parents when appropriate.
  • Interact with other agencies when appropriate.
  • Serve as a resource to the campus staff in the area of speech and language and collaborate with classroom teachers to implement effective services for student.
  • Student Management Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students.
  • Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Program Management Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and make changes based on the findings.
  • Participate in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
  • Enter and maintain all digital reports, records, and other required documents including NPI numbers, Texas license, and ASHA-CCC, required for Medicaid and SHARS billing within required timelines.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Other Attend all meetings required by the speech coordinator and/or the SPED department.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise licensed assistant therapists or CF when assigned.
  • Mentor fellow therapists when assigned.
