The special collections and archives in the library, is to curate unique collections that are original , unique, and historical documents. The scope of the collection is related to the university, the local community, the region, government, and special collections. This position directly aligns to the university's strategic plan goal of embracing and celebrating the unique identity of UNCP. The special collections and archives librarian is responsible for the daily operations of the reading room. They will coordinate workflow of acquiring, processing, and research of the special collections materials. They will participate in the strategic and goal setting related to their area. They will promote the use of primary materials in the community and in classroom. They will make recommendations of budgetary needs for their area. They will participate in other duties as directed by the assistant dean and dean of the library. Occassional weekend coverage. The Special Collections and Archives Librarian role will focus on the management and preservation of the university's Special Collections and University Archives, while also driving financial and material support. The librarian will administer digital collections and library systems and ensure the proper housing, preservation, and handling of all physical materials. This position works closely with technical services on collection development, rare book cataloging, and digitization. The librarian will participate in donor relationship building and work with advancement to secure resources, and will also research, write, and submit grants to support the department. This position is Mandatory Personnel. Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.
