About The Position

The Special Assistant to the Deputy Superintendent provides executive support, managing day-to-day operations in the Office of the Deputy Superintendent. This involves close coordination with the Chief of Schools, the Chief of Academics, the Chief of Staff, the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Superintendent and the Superintendent, and the Security Detail to ensure the Deputy Superintendent's schedule runs smoothly in alignment with HISD top priorities. Furthermore, the Special Assistant helps coordinate activities involving all members of the Deputy Superintendent’s senior leadership team and external stakeholders. This position joins majority of meetings with Deputy Superintendent and engages with staff members and external stakeholders to support leadership priorities. The Houston Independent School District is currently undergoing the largest public education transformation in the nation. The ideal candidate will be passionate about public education policy and reform with a focus on positive student outcomes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years
  • Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Helps Executive Assistant align Deputy Superintendent’s calendar with top priorities.
  • Accompanies the Superintendent for internal and external meetings and manages meeting follow up.
  • Keeps track of top priorities for the week and tracks action items.
  • Coordinates all campus visits and prepares data reports for these visits to ensure the Superintendent is well-prepared during engagements.
  • Manages the Deputy Superintendent’s HISD email and HISD cellphone.
  • Ensures consistent communication with Chief of Schools, Chief of Academics, Chief of Staff, Chief of Departments, and Special Assistant to the Superintendent to schedule meetings and share information.
  • Ensure all technology is set up appropriately for Deputy Superintendent events, i.e., projector, microphone, audio/visual, for external events and meetings.
  • Make necessary preparations and gather information in advance of speeches, press conferences, and other internal/external events in which the Deputy Superintendent will participate.
  • Update the Deputy Superintendent of district matters.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
